| Description - Medical Assistants are important members of many health care teams. The exact duties of medical assistants will vary by employer, depending upon the specialty of the practitioner, and the location & size of the practice. | Description - Phlebotomists work directly with patients, and as such are many times the only 'face' that patients may associate with the medical laboratories that perform vital patient testing for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. For this reason, they must have excellent customer service and communication skills in addition to the clinical knowledge and skills they will need to collect patient samples like blood and urine. Laboratory results depend greatly upon the phlebotomist's ability to collect quality specimens. This is a position of high responsibility. Route 1. Graduation from an NCCT-approved ORT/ST program within the last 10 years + completion of required practical experience; or
Route 2a. Completion of formal ORT/ST training + 1 yr full-time qualifying experience within the past 2 years

Route 2b: Seven years of qualifying full-time ORT/ST experience within the past 10 years; or
Route 2c: Licensure as an MD, RN, LPN, or LVN with extensive scrub experience
