Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks may apply for our examination with qualified experience or education. The Bookkeeper examination content areas include balance sheets, payroll, profit & loss, month end closing, and legal & ethical issues in the profession.

Bookkeeper - Advanced
NRB-A
Advanced Bookkeeper test candidates must be graduates of approved 2 year programs in accounting and bookkeeping procedures, or they may challenge our exam after earning the NCCT basic bookkeeping credential with at least one year of additional experience. A third experiential route (to qualify to take the examination) is available to candidates who have no formal schooling, provided they have a minimum of 3 years of full time related experience or at least 4000 hours of part time experience.
Graduation from an approved program; or
NRB certificate with 1 year experience; or
3 years full time bookkeeping/accounting experience or 4000 hours part time experience; and

Certified Postsecondary Instructor
CPI
The CPI examination assesses whether someone with at least 6 months experience as a postsecondary instructor (i.e. beyond high school) has the skills necessary to plan, implement, and evaluate learning. It requires that candidates possess a general knowledge of education theory and practice, particularly adult education. This exam looks ONLY at teaching skills. It is for any instructor at the postsecondary level, no matter what subject s/he teaches.
High School (HS) diploma or equivalent; and
Minimum 6 months full time postsecondary teaching experience; and
Signed, completed application form with all documents BEFORE the exam; and
Evidence of subject matter expertise* (see application form); and
Evidence of good moral character (see application form); and
Reference #1 (using form in application) and Reference #2 (using form in application); and
*License or other credential may be included as evidence of subject matter expertise (optional).

Donor Phlebotomist
DP(NCCT)
Donor Phlebotomists are trained professionals who work directly with blood donors. They meet, greet, and take donor histories and vital signs when members of the community arrive to donate blood. They also draw donor units, perform post-puncture care, and make sure that all blood donation protocols are followed precisely. Donor Phlebotomists may work for blood donation centers, community blood centers, or mobile drawing stations. There is no NCCT review book for this exam. Instead, NCCT recommends the AABB Donor Services Training manual as a reference; it is free to AABB members.
High School (HS) diploma or equivalent; and
Donor Phlebotomy Test; and
6 months acceptable experience as a DONOR phlebotomist within the past year and 80 successful DONOR collections*
*including histories, under the supervision of a CLS, MT, RN, MD, or equivalent

ECG Technician
NCET
ECG (Electrocardiogram) Technicians perform ECG tests that record and monitor electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. The ECG Technician examination content areas include medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, rhythm, and basic interpretation.

Esthetician Specialist
NCES
Estheticians practice the care and beautification of the skin of the human body for compensation, including but not limited to cleaning, applying cosmetics, oils lotions, clay, creams, antiseptics, powders, tonics to or massaging, stimulating, wrapping or exercising the skin of the body.

Insurance & Coding Specialist
NCICS
The Insurance and Coding Specialist can find a rewarding position as a health insurance claims processor or coder in a medical office practice. The Examination content areas include medical billing procedures, insurance claims processing, medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9-CM Coding, and HCPCS Level II coding.

Medical Assistant
NCMA
Medical Assistants are important members of many health care teams. They typically perform both clinical and administrative tasks that keep the offices of physicians and other health care practitioners running smoothly. The exact duties of medical assistants will vary by employer, depending upon the specialty of the practitioner, and the location & size of the practice. Administrative office responsibilities may consist of handling insurance forms, billing and bookkeeping; updating and filing medical records; scheduling appointments and arranging for hospital admissions; and more. Clinical duties will vary according to State law. They may range from taking medical histories and vital signs, to collection of laboratory specimens, to providing basic patient instructions, and all such duties are generally under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. Content on the NCCT exam includes medical office management, medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy & physiology, and medical procedures.

Medical Office Assistant
NCMOA
Medical Office Assistants typically perform administrative duties for health care providers in office settings, although some may also perform basic clinical tasks (as allowed by state laws). Their responsibilities will vary by employer, but may include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing medical records, completing insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing or bookkeeping. The NCCT exam content includes medical office procedures, medical insurance and billing, basic clinical responsibilities, medical/legal foundations, and medical terminology.

Patient Care Technician
NCPCT
Patient Care Technicians--are patient care assistants who perform routine tasks under the supervision or either nursing or medical staff. They typically work in health care facilities (e.g. hospitals, residential care centers) rather than in private medical offices, and some may work as home health aides. They often help patients with activities of daily living (bathing, eating, walking, dressing) and they may assist with other procedures. They are vital members of many health care teams because they have a great deal of direct contact with patients.

Pharmacy Technician
NCPhT
The responsibilities of Pharmacy Technicians will vary for each employer, but may include (1) entering medication orders; (2) ordering and recieving stock; (3) packaging medications; (4) compounding ointments or creams; (5) auditing stock; and/or (6) assisting a pharmacist in filling or labeling. Pharmacy Technicians work under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, and responsibilities may differ as state laws allow. The NCCT certification exam content includes drug names, uses, and abbreviations; pharmacy procedures; measurements and math; substance abuse; and regulations.

Phlebotomy Technician
NCPT
Phlebotomists work directly with patients, and as such are many times the only 'face' that patients may associate with the medical laboratories that perform vital patient testing for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. For this reason, they must have excellent customer service and communication skills in addition to the clinical knowledge and skills they will need to collect patient samples like blood and urine. Laboratory results depend greatly upon the phlebotomist's ability to collect quality specimens. This is a position of high responsibility. Test content areas include (1) infection control, universal precautions, and safety; (2) anatomy and physiology of circulatory & other major body systems and medical terms; (3) identification, accuracy, ramifications to patients; (4) preparation and site selection; (5) equipment and additives; (6) disposal; (7) infectious disease and biohazards; (8) the coagulation process; (9) sources of error; (10 ) site selection and preparation; (11) risk factors and complications; (12) corrective actions; (13) appliation of professional topics (communication, stress management, ethics, legal); and (14) quality assurance.

Tech in Surgery - Certified (NCCT)
TS-C(NCCT)
The TS-C (NCCT) is an important member of many operating room teams, and may also be called a scrub, surg tech, or an OR tech. These technicians usually work under the direct supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel, and their duties vary depending upon the facility. Examination content includes medical and surgical terms; anatomy and physiology; microbiology/infection control; pharmacology as it pertains to the operating room; the surgical environment; perioperative procedures; sterilization and instrumentation; and OSHA and other safety regulations.
Documentation of at least 150 cases from specified categories on NCCT clinical exp form; and
Graduation from an approved ORT/ST program recognized by the US Dept of Education (DOE) or Graduation from a formal ORT/ST program (non-DOE) + 1 yr FT valid exp in last 2 yr or equivalent*; or
7 years valid experience in past 10 years; and
Credentials as an MD/RN/LPN/LVN with extensive valid scrub experience; and
Tech in Surgery Test.
*Equivalent=2 yr PT exp in 4 years, etc. as approved. See application for details.
