Despite the fact that healthcare practitioners and educational providers have been gearing up for a mandated change to the ICD-10-CM coding system in October 2014,
new legislation has now pushed the ICD-10-CM compliance deadline to October 2015 at the earliest. This poses a dilemma for both schools and certifying bodies.
Some educational programs are already teaching ICD-10-CM coding, while others are still using ICD-9-CM code sets.
|Insurance and coding programs using NCCT certification know we update the ICD and CPT codes in our National Certified Insurance and
Coding Specialist (NCICS) certification examination and review products on July 1st annually. To accommodate our customers’ needs in light of this new legislation,
our NCICS exam updates for 2014 will include both 2014 CPT codes and the candidate’s choice of either ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM codes on separate exams.
Either way, both will earn the same NCICS certification.
