Why was the CPI examination developed?

The CPI examination was developed in response to nationwide requests for an exam that would measure whether a subject matter expert was also a qualified instructor. In the field of postsecondary education, instructors are hired primarily because of their expertise in their field of study but may have little if any background in instruction. Just as instructors of medical assistants will have certain medical knowledge, skills, and abilities in health care, they must also have certain knowledge, skills, and abilities in education. Education is another field of knowledge that requires specific skills. Many of us have had teachers who were intelligent and capable practitioners in their field or career, but who failed miserably as teachers. NCCT was asked to build a tool (exam) that would identify those professionals who are prepared to take their practical knowledge to the adult learner classroom and be successful in their teaching endeavors.

Have you completed Home Health Aide training or its equivalent during U.S Military service within the past Five (5) years and you can provide a copy of SMART transcript or DD214 indicating you have successfully completed a formal medical service training program of the United Stated Armed Forces relating to Home Health Aide? The DD214 or SMART transcript must be current within the past FIVE (5) years.
